if you want to make them a species for the tamaran universe I have some ideas but you don't have to
they'd be companions, like dogs/cats to us. They range in size, from a medium dog to the size of a horse, thus Tamarans can ride them. Their legs are really fragile though.
They used to assist Tamarans in hunting and stuff I guess, before robots. Now robots do the tasks Zavire used to do.
Tamarans still own them as 'pets' however.

they make a sound that is between a squeak and a bark, its more like a squeak but isnt as high pitched.
they have teeth like a horses, but have fangs, so they can rip up meat and eat plants
